5 Year Anniversary of Pink Floyd Live 8 Concert

Today we celebrate the 5 year anniversary of Pink Floyd’s Live 8 reunion by streaming all four songs the band played at the charity concert in their entirety. Pink Floyd had not played together for 24 years prior to that show and they have not played together since. The band turned down a rumored $250 million deal after the concert to take part in a final Pink Floyd farewell tour.

At the beginning of “Wish You Were Here” Roger Waters tells the audience: “It’s actually quite emotional, standing up here with these three guys after all these years, standing to be counted with the rest of you. Anyway, we’re doing this for everyone who’s not here, and particularly of course for Syd.” Former band mate and founder of the band, Syd Barrett, passed roughly a year later at his home in Cambridgeshire. After their final song “Comfortably Numb” David Gilmour thanked the audience, and started to walk off the stage, Waters soon called him back out as the band joined in a long-overdue group hug. Keyboardist Richard Wright’s passing in 2008 even lessens the chances the band will play together once more.
