Back in the Motown days instrumentalists usually remained anonymous, except for Junior Walker. Walker was a sax player by trade but was thrust into the spotlight after the vocalist he hired didn’t show up for the recording of his first big hit “Shotgun” and the label decided to keep Walker’s gritty vocal instead.
