First Aid Kit – The Lion’s Roar
What is in the water over in Sweden these days? Whatever it is they should bottle and ship it all over the world because this country’s natives has been churning out some great tunes as of late. First Aid Kit has been around for several years but their new album The Lion’s Roar is filled with10 highly listenable tracks and seems to be some of their best work to date. After releasing the ridiculously habit forming song “Emmylou” weeks ago I have been looking out for this album and was not disappointed with the final product.
My first impression of the album was that “Emmylou” might be in a class all it’s own, but after several listens the dark moody songs like “I Found a Way” and “In Hearts of Men” emerged as tragic yet lovely tracks. The duo sound perfect together and although they tend to use my least favorite expletive GD more than I would prefer their album is very easy to like. Each song crescendos in just the right place, has a well timed musical breakdown, utilizes their perfect harmonies and chugs along with ease straight to the end. If you don’t believe me then give “The Lion’s Roar” a quick spin and see if Johanna and Kiara can convince you.
