Almost 7 years after the release of “Lapalco”, a lot has changed for Brendan Benson. A stint as Jack White’s wingman in “The Raconteurs”, and the Itunes commercial driven success of “What I’m Looking For” has brought his indie guitar pop to an all new audience. While the audience has grown, the music has not changed much, and per the usual the album has several ridiculously catchy pop rock tunes. While the music is great at times, it does drags in other parts of the album. The album’s high points stand up to his best from “Lapalco”, and “The Alternative to Love”, without regurgitating the same old stuff.
Low points aside, Brendan Benson has taken his time to deliver a very nice (and rather diverse) collection of pop songs. While this album might not be a must buy, make sure you check out the songs below.
