The long-awaited album Dark Night of the Soul, from Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton and Mark “Sparklehorse” Linkous is streaming free thru NPR until it’s official release on July 12. The album includes collaboration with a wide array of singers including James Mercer of The Shins, The Flaming Lips, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Frank Black of the Pixies, Iggy Pop, Nina Persson of The Cardigans, Suzanne Vega, Vic Chesnutt, David Lynch, and Scott Spillane of Neutral Milk Hotel. While the album has been available in CD-R version since last year it has been held up in a dispute with EMI Records and producer Brian Burton for the past year. Included with the deluxe version of the album includes a 48-page book containing a series of surreal photographs filmmaker David Lynch created, based on the stories and themes of the songs. The set also includes a poster, two LPs, a CD and a bonus instrumental CD. Lynch himself also sings on a couple of the album’s tracks.
