Listen To Justin Townes Earle’s Latest Album Before it’s Release

Last month we posted a free download of the latest single from Justin Townes Earle, a swampy throwback Sun Records meets gospel music kind of tune called “Harlem River Blues”.  Now, you can listen to the entire record of the same name thanks to NPR’s first listen.

The new records namesake is the Harlem River, which runs just outside of Justin’s new digs in New York City.  He calls the river “the nastiest body of water you’ve ever seen in your life.” and says, “I guess it just kind of inspired me a bit”.

Despite his recent relocation from Nashville, this does not sound like a big city record.  There is plenty of Justin’s trademark old time sound, topped off with some Memphis style soul.  The new album features former Drive by Trucker Jason Isbell on lead guitar, Calexico’s Paul Niehaus on the pedal steel, and Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor on the harmonica.

The new album won’t be released until September 14th, but you can listen to the record in it’s entirety until then by clicking here, or starting the player below.
