Supergroups are always hit or miss. For every Traveling Wilburys there’s a Chickenfoot. Lately however supergroups have been pretty solid in the alt-country and folk rock genre. Jim James/Conor Oberst/M.Ward’s Monsters of Folk put out a great debut album last year and Deer Tick/Delta Spirit members’ side project MG&V should be releasing their debut album soon. The latest after-school rock club is the band Tired Pony. An international collection of musicians which includes Snow Patrol lead singer Gary Lightbody, Belle and Sebastian dummer Richard Colburn and REM guitarist Peter Buck. The band has just released the first track “Point Me at Lost Islands” off their upcoming album The Place We Ran due out this July. The album includes cameos from Zooey Deschanel, M. Ward, Tom Smith of the indie rock group Editors and is produced by Jacknife Lee (U2, REM, Bloc Party).
