Listening to a band’s album is only half of it. You can’t fully appreciate a great musician until you’ve seen them play live (or during a previously broadcasted performance). Break out your lighters and cellphones!

Previous Live Shows

Tokyo Police Club @ The Black Cat WDC – 7/27

Tokyo Police Club brought their indie rock and their youth to the Black Cat Club in DC this week but did they bring the fire?

Junior League Band @ Rock N Roll Hotel WDC 7/16

We're always down for a good ole fashioned honky-tonk alt-country show and the Junior League Band delivered.

Smashing Pumpkins @ The Norva – 7/15/10

15 years after being on top of the alternative rock world, The Smashing Pumpkins played a sold-out club full of screaming fans. Has Billy Corgan been able to resurrect greatness or have these mutilated squashes gone flat?

Delta Spirit @ 9:30 Club Washington DC – 7/3/10

From the first chord, California band Delta Spirit had the entire crowd geeking out for their southern-influenced americana rock.

Islands @ The Black Cat Washington DC – 7/1/10

Canadian indie rockers, Islands, took center stage at The Black Cat in DC this past week and we were there to cover their shimmering brand of funked-out, spacey synth-pop.

Blitzen Trapper @ 9:30 Club Washington D.C. 6/14/10

Blitzen Trapper and Washington DC's top live music hot spot have two things in common. Plenty of grungy attitude and funky character. But do they both rock??

Dr. Dog @ 9:30 Club Washington D.C. 5/14/10

For a band that draws so many comparisons to bands like The Beatles and Beach Boys, who never played most of their best material live, Dr. Dog sure does put on quite the concert.

My Morning Jacket – Merriweather Post Pavilion, 5/1/2010

My Morning Jacket’s sound is purely American with hints of blues, country, and rock, so it was fitting that they brought a piece of American musical history on the road with them. New Orleans’ own Preservation Jazz Hall Band.

A Newbies Guide to Widespread Panic – Richmond, VA 4/26/10

Widespread Panic is one of those bands that people seem to either love or disregard. Surely the truth lies somewhere in between these polarizing viewpoints, so we've decided to get to the bottom of it.

Phoenix Live at The Norva – Norfolk, VA – 4/27/10

In an effort to mix things up we have presented a play-by-play analysis "text style" of French rock band Phoenix's recent energy-filled concert in downtown Norfolk, VA. It's a 21st century review that takes you right down in the midst of the action.

The National Live at National Theater – Richmond, VA 04/23/10

With hopes of elevating success amidst high anticipation for their next album, Brooklyn-based band, The National, kicked off a spring/summer 2010 tour from a renovated theater of the same name in downtown Richmond, VA.

Drive By Truckers @ The Norva – Norfolk, VA 4/15/10

Armed with a killer opening act, ten years worth of awesome songs, a great new album and a couple bottles of Jack Daniels, the Drive By Truckers brought their "Rock Show" to Norfolk, VA last night.

Dr. Dog on Jimmy Fallon

Last night, Dr. Dog stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to perform a track from their new album Shame, Shame. The band chose "Stranger", the opening track from the album, pumping it up a bit for the live performance.

She & Him – In the Sun Live on Letterman

Last night She & Him brought their sunshine pop to Late Night with David Letterman, performing the first single "In the Sun" off of Volume 2.

Wilco – National Theater, Richmond, VA 3/29/10

A lot has changed for Wilco since they last played Richmond in 1997. With 13 years, a few lineup shakeups, a couple Grammys behind them, the band returned as seasoned veterans with a sound that isn't quite as easily summed up in one genre.

Josh Ritter’s “Secret Rehearsal Show”

Josh Ritter played a ridiculously intimate live show at The Saint in Asbury Park NJ for about 100 of his fans on Thursday night and if you like Josh’s music you’re probably going to wish you had been there.

Drive By Truckers Play New Track On Letterman

Last night Patterson Hood & Co. brought The Big to Do to Late Night with David Letterman. With the new album dropping on Tuesday, a Friday night slot on America's biggest late night show can't hurt as far as exposure is concerned.

Allman Brothers Band Rocks Late Night

Last night the Allman Brothers took the "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" stage to promote their string of upcoming NY shows at the United Palace theatre March 11th - 20th. They played one of their classic tunes, "Whipping Post" and they really brought it.

Get Up Kids – Norfolk, VA – 11/4/09

If you’re a fan of music in the indie/emo/pop punk variety keep your eyes peeled and your ear to the ground, because The Get Up Kids might not be done yet.

U2 – Charlottesville, VA – 10/1/09

U2's 360 Tour experience consists of a huge metallic claw, an elaborate catwalk and a ridiculous amount of screens and speakers. For all that technology and engineering, the end result is some damn fine acoustics.

Silversun Pickups – Richmond, VA – 8/4/09

The greatest summer concert season of all time continues with California indie-rock outfit Silversun Pickups. "They are so hot right now!"

Paul Mccartney – Fedex Field 8/1/09

I was at an all time high of anticipation and decided to spring the extra coin for seats in the front section of the field; after all how many chances do you get a chance to see a Beatle up close and personal.

Doves – Washington DC – 6/6/09

It's midnight at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC. After 5 years of rocking their albums, I finally get to see British rockers Doves live. Will they fly high or fall from grace?

Viva La Coldplay – Virginia Beach, VA 5/20/09

Chris Martin might sound like the Geico Gecko when he talks but the man plays the piano like an angel!

Wilco – Asheville, NC 4/21/09

Wilco has the total package for a live show. They have a huge back catalog, a super talented front man, and a tight band complete with a lead guitar player who gives himself whiplash every show from rocking too hard.
