Despite the huge contributions to the indie/emo music scene from Davey von Bohlen’s former band The Promise Ring – his latest outfit Maritime seems to be a band that the indie press doesn’t seem to give a damn about.  It’s a shame because the band turns out album after album of energetic and melody laden pop rock chalked full of winners. The band’s latest effort Human Hearts is no different, finding Davey and the gang once again churning out catchy indie rock with shades of the pop punk sounds of years past.

I for one am ready to give this band, and this album a little bit of love.  The album works really well as a whole, and seems to be getting more enjoyable with each listen.   Von Bohlen’s voice shines as usual, and guitarist Dan Hinz’s punchy guitar is the perfect complement to the ambient mood of a lot of these songs.  Short and sweet at ten tracks, who knows how time will treat this one, but I sure am enjoying it now.

Human Hearts is out now via Thunderbird Records, and is currently streaming for free in it’s entirety over at Spinner.com.  Check it Out!
