Mccartney’s “NYC” DVD Release

maccanyThis August I posted a glowing review of my experience at a Paul Mccartney show.  Well, now, you can all have a pretty similar experience from the comfort of your own home.  Yesterday Paul released his latest DVD “Good Evening New York City”, taken from his three night stand at Citi Field, just two nights before the concert I attended.

I had the opportunity to check out an advance copy of this DVD, and was all about it.  This is a straight performance without the interruptions and interviews that hampered Paul’s previous DVD releases.  The mix for the DVD was completed by longtime Beatles sound engineer Geoff Emerick, who provides a mix that is vastly superior to all of Mccartney’s past live efforts.

The set was almost identical to the show I got to catch, which is a great thing as it was quite the performance.  The concert itself is excellent, full of energy, and is a very fun set.  Macca is in top form, and has a top notch band playing behind him.  It is amazing to listen to Paul’s voice as he performs these songs and realize that his 67 year old voice remains unchanged after all these years.

“Good Evening New York City”  contains contains a DVD and  2 CD’s with the same performance, and offers a great mix of Mccartney classics including a heavy dose of Beatles tunes. The performance includes tributes to his former bandmates John and George, and also performances of collaborative Lennon/Mccartney written tunes he has avoided over the years (A Day in the Life, I’ve Got a Feeling).

Releasing tomorrow the set is priced around $15, a great buy for those who enjoy concert DVD’s.  There is no Blu-Ray version announced which is quite puzzling, but the DVD will have to do for now.
