Today is a great day for fans of My Morning Jacket. This morning, the band announced that their sixth full length album, titled Circuital will be released this spring. According to a report in Rolling Stone the band recorded the new album in a church gymnasium in their hometown of Louisville, KY, and they are calling it “the most live record we’ve ever done.” The band also cited a rather interesting muse for some of the new tracks. Jim James said he wrote a few tracks “Wonderful” and “Out of My System” for an “amazing Muppets collaboration that never happened”. While the boys joining forces with Animal and the Electric Mayhem Band does sound pretty awesome, a new MMJ studio album isn’t to shabby.
In another bit of awesomeness, the band also announced that to celebrate the new disc, they will be giving away six free weekly downloads – the first of which is available today. The first five downloads are master recordings from the bands epic run at New York’s Terminal Five last October where the band played through each of their five albums in five nights. The first such download is “Butch Cassidy” from the bands debut album The Tennessee Fire. The audio quality on the live track is excellent, sounding every bit as good the Okonokos live album – perhaps a sign of things to come. On April 12th (the sixth week), they will drop the first single from Circuital. Sign up in the widget below to download the first track and automatically receive all the music as it’s revealed.
