Over the course of their latest tour, My Morning Jacket has brought a couple new songs into the mix. While it is debatable exactly what the origin of these songs are, or where they will ultimately land, most can agree that they are two really solid tunes, and a more than welcome addition to the band’s repertoire.
The first, “Friends Again” is a Jim James penned track that the band played several times on their spring tour. While some think this track is a reworked leftover from the Evil Urges sessions, most feel it is the first glimpse of new material for an upcoming album. The second, “Carried Away” is most likely a solo effort from guitarist Carl Broemel, but sounds great as performed by the whole band. A studio version of this song is streaming on Carl’s myspace page, but the live version sounds much more like an MMJ track.
Below are two audio streams of the “new” tracks, taken from the band’s Nashville show on 4/21/10.
